Neo Mastiff barking a tuneThe following report by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) is an in depth report on the high levels of toxic industrial chemicals that are now commonly found in dogs and cats: High Levels of Toxic Industrial Chemicals Contaminate Cats And Dogs

This study is the most comprehensive investigation of the chemical body burden of companion animals conducted to date, with 23 chemicals reported in pets for the first time“, was stated in this article. Not surprising considering how many toxic chemicals are released into the environment into regular use without studying the ramifications of it all; without considering how things interact and work together in nature.

To quote my veterinarian friend Dr. Patricia Jordan: “Dogs have 5 times as much mercury in their systems as humans – likely because they get 5 times as many vaccines!”

I concur! Vaccines are still being made with mercury even though the government knows that this is a very toxic chemical. It is said it is used to “trigger the immune response“. Did you know that just about anything injected into the body will trigger the immune response? If these proponents and pushers of vaccines understood the difference between immunology and vaccinology MAYBE (and I say that tongue-in-cheek) this whole non-sense of vaccines would stop.

But not likely since the governments in the world are the largest purchasers of vaccines (interesting how it is also them who push mandating vaccines – cha ching!), so no wonder the following is evident:

Our new grads don’t know a heck of a lot more about vaccines than our older grads. And I’ve figured out why this is. They know a lot more about basic immunology, but they don’t know about vaccinology and the two are not the same! Also, they’re taught by people generally that know nothing about vaccinology. Now, when do they get their vaccine training? During their fourth year. And who’s giving that? The veterinarians that know how to give vaccines, that still don’t know about vaccinology. So we haven’t gone very far from where we were ten years ago or twenty years ago with regard to training veterinarians about vaccines. ~Ronald Schultz, PhD, leading veterinary vaccine researcher during a 2009 Pet Vaccine Seminar

At any rate I digress.

Something to consider is that our dogs and cats live much shorter lives than us. Because of how they interact in their domestic environments it shouldn’t surprise us not only that the levels in their bodies are substantially higher but the fact that it is shortening their already shorter lives.

For nearly all the chemicals included in the current study, health risks in pets have not been studied. But the chemicals are linked to serious health effects in other studies from laboratory data or human populations…” Okay so if it is now being seen that there are substantially higher levels of these toxic chemicals in pets, that there is a direct correlation to the rise of health problems in pets.

Consider that they are vaccinated yearly. Then consider that dogs have FIVE times the mercury levels than in people.

Then let’s add in the problems of all those toxins in commercial packaged pet foods fed daily to our pets: “Studies also show a high correlation between eating canned food and developing hyperthyroidism later in life for cats (Edinboro 2004; Kass 1999, Martin 2000). In addition to PBDEs, hyperthyroidism in cats could be linked to the plastics chemical and potent endocrine disruptor BPA that is known to leach from the pop-top cat food can lining into food (Edinboro 2004; Kang 2002).”

Then consider that we use topical chemicals on them and call it “prevention“. Chemicals that have known neurotoxins in them. We say it is to combat fleas, ticks and other pests: “A flea collar can spew droplets of insecticide that can be lethal to cats (Linnett 2008)”.

Now let’s go back to how that commercial food is packaged and what it is packaged in:
Dogs and cats often eat food processing and packaging chemicals that contaminate their food, day after day and year after year, resulting in cumulative exposures with unknown health risks (FDA CVM 2008b).”

Then because we love our pets we buy them all sorts of toys, and nice beds, and “cute” dishes for them to eat their commercial junk food out of: “Chew toys might contain plastic softeners, foam beds might be infused or coated with fire retardants and stain-proofing chemicals linked to cancer and birth defects, and plastic water bowls might leach hormone disruptors.”

Then we can just blame it on the fact that they are a cat or dog instead of the actual chemicals we jab and slather them in either every year, every month and in some cases EVERY day:
The perversely named dancing cat fever‘ describes the results of neurological damage in cats with acute mercury poisoning (Koya 1964).”

Top it off with the fact that animals lay on the floors we clean with all our toxic chemicals. They sleep in chemical laden beds (as do we), that have been washed with yet more toxic chemicals (oh yes laundry soaps are some of the most toxic chemicals around as are everyday cleaning products). Then they play and lay around in our pesticide, herbicide, commercial fertilizer laden yards.

Then they do what is natural to dogs and cats: lick themselves to clean themselves. So they ingest all those chemicals clinging to them as well!

But we can change all that, IF we choose to.

When I was in a situation this past weekend to share with a woman how she could change all of this, she did not want to hear me because her “vet said…blah, blah, blah“. No matter what I or my friend tried to say, in as gentle way as possible, she did not want to hear it. She even closed her eyes and squished up her face shutting us out. At that point I walked away, got her my card and asked her to consider it by going to my website and learning all I have posted there. I feel so much for her special little Dachshund rescue – that is who I was attempting to advocate for. Her dog was trying to show her and tell her – I gathered all of that from what she was saying in her conversation with me.

I had to walk away. And I am sad about it. This little dog’s face, so sweet and so trusting even though she had been through so much bad with humans, will not be allowed a true dog’s life. Not even a hint of it…UNLESS her human decides to take that leap of faith. This little dog will live a very toxic life and at some point succumb to a disease or as so many dogs do these days, cancer, because her human couldn’t see past her accepted beliefs.

Veterinary ethologist, Dr. Mryna Milani podcasted about that recently:
Human-K-9 Communication Breakdowns

One of the most dangerous things a man can do is to go to people and tell them that all their accepted ideas are wrong. ~Dr. William Barclay

For those of you who are ready to take that leap of faith and UNlearn, I am here to help. I am so glad I listened to Shadrach, or he would have been gone years ago instead of only this past April.

Have a pawsitively tail waggin’, NATURALLY healthy day!
