‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a scented candle, plug-in, perfume, cologne, scented dryer sheets, or scented house cleaning products were stirring or visible – at least not ever in my own house. Not for the last 15 years! We want our dogs (us as well) to be healthy and well year-round including during the holidays. Just use REAL scents for the holidays okay? People have no idea how toxic these synthetic fragrances can be, but rest assured they are and can wreck havoc on your own health and definitely that of your pets and children. So let’s just do our due diligence and start removing all this stuff shall we? I have done lots of podcasts on this topic over the years and most recently one I’ll share below titled, The Truth About Scents and as always I provide additional links and resources to help you learn.

I ditched these artificial scents a long time ago as I stated above. I also got rid of the toxic household cleaning products, and also did the same with personal care products. ALL of that stuff off-gasses and it is toxic to us as much as to our pets. It affects them quicker it seems and now more and more it is affecting them because we keep doing the same things over and over again but expecting a different outcome. Einstein said that is the definition of insanity and that mindset seems to reign these days. Sadly. And to the detriment of our animals health as well as our own. When I got rid of that stuff, guess what? I started to be well. No more allergies or asthma. The same happened with my major Teacher Dog, Shadrach!! I did a lot more than just get rid of stuff, I replaced them with things that support my body and that of my husband and dogs rather than hinder their health. That journey is ongoing as we make better choices. As Maya Angelou said (and I paraphrase) when we know better we do better.

I started by also getting rid of the artificial air “fresheners” which only freshen the pockets of those who manufacture and sell them. I make my own using Young Living’s essential oils, water and even the emulsifier I use is a natural, good product – typically a tiny bit of my shampoo or my dog’s shampoo, also Young Living.

So have a VERY Merry Christmas and Happy New, Healthy New Year – start by getting rid of the toxic scents because that just makes sense yo!
