Animals Can Self-Medicate

Animals Can Self-Medicate

When allowed access to their natural environments, animals can self-medicate even if that can’t be proven scientifically since it is subjective – at least according to science it is anyway. To sidetrack a bit it always amazes me how humans feel the need to have to “prove” the intelligence and cognition of animals. It is our arrogance thinking that we are the only intelligent, cognitive creatures on the planet that has gotten us into...

Observing Nature

A couple of mornings ago I found both of these almost next to one another. The feather is from a little sand owl who has her nest in a mesa cleft we walk past each morning. She flew off with her meal (mouse or squirrel) as we came upon her and left a feather in the process. 🦅 I don’t know what the other is but it matched the feather and feels like a sand dollar in texture. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m sharing...

Shaving Your Dog’s Fur

Shaving Your Dog’s Fur

I know a lot of people shave down their dogs in summer that have heavy coats. Did you know that coat provides insulation both against the heat as well as the cold? My female Schatzie (Carolina Dog) isn’t a bit interested lol but she gets tail waggin’ happy when she watches us play...

She does this the closer to home we get and she doesn’t like me filming or photographing her anymore 💖…in the photo in the comments is one of the now nine wild rabbits that wait for us to get home because my husband feeds them. We’re in extreme drought so...

The Howling Game, Pt2

This is the Howling Game (on video this time) that King and I do all the time. I had to stealth videotape because if he sees it he’ll stop lol. So sadly it is facing sideways. Sometimes this game can last five (5) minutes or longer. The more in depth and varied my howls are, the more his are too. King also won’t do this game if my husband is home or if he thinks my husband is in the house. He is Donnie’s sidekick but he...
