The Beast Behind the Beauty

Beautiful Carolina Dog

Schatzie here, all the way from heaven. I have a VERY hard subject to share with you humans but it’s VERY imPAWtant for you and for us. Mom thought it would be best if I share bepaws she always called me her Beauty Queen on earth, and now I really AM a beauty queen in heaven, woof! My hope is to help you be the true beauty queens YOU are by choosing better for yourself and thereby for your dogs (and other pets too of course).

Have you ever considered the cost of beauty products? I don’t mean the actual monetary cost, but the actual cost on us AND our pets? Our pets? YES. Stay with me as I explain a bit – as always don’t take my word for it, DIG in and do your own research to get to the bottom of this beast behind the beauty – actual and spiritual. Everything is spiritual humans, after all that is going on in your world right now, that ought to be VERY evident.

If you are worth it as the ad says, shouldn’t you be? And are you really TOO sexy for your shirt? NOT if you are covered in toxins that are degrading your natural beauty and health over time – and your dogs/pets as well as I already stated. King must’ve really been showing off himself in this pic hehe. He was my best friend ever in the world and he is quite the handsome fella, especially bepaws he’s naturally reared. That’s what this long post is all about really.

I see so many human women who understand true natural health for their animals, but forget about themselves AND what that is also doing to the very animals they love. They slather themselves in perfumes, makeup, get manicures, pedicures, hair color all while sitting and breathing in those fumes at those pricey salons. Yes you ARE worth it – worth NOT doing this to yourselves and to your animals. Why do I keep mentioning us animals? Bepaws ALL of that stuff stays on your clothes, you use it in the laundry, you put in on yourselves and that off-gases to us. We are far more sensitive too with shorter lives and better sense of smell.

Learning what to choose, and how to choose, may be the most important education you will ever receiveDr. Shad Helmstetter

If you could get healthier choices for the same budget would you choose it? If you could save money by doing so would you choose better? I’ll explain a bit later, just keep reading. Here are some statistics (humans seem to love these things) which are already outdated so just know that means things are FAR worse now!

Bio accumulation studies have shown that some toxins store in our bodies for life. Greater and greater amounts are being stored at younger and younger ages.  Diseases that used to occur later in life are now appearing at younger ages. Disease that used to be rare is more frequent.

There has been a 28% increase in childhood cancer since the addition of pesticides into household’s products (Source: National Cancer Institute)

In one decade, there has been a 42% increase in asthma (29% for men and 82% for women- the higher rate for women is believed to be due to the womens’ longer exposure to household chemicals (Source: Center for Disease Control) and let’s add all of the personal care products and makeup to this list for women as well!

Due to the increase in toxic buildup in our bodies, including the toxic buildup of formaldehyde, dead bodies are not decomposing as fast as they used too. (Source National Institutes of Health)

Warning labels on containers refer ONLY to toxins hazard from ingestion, however only 10% of health problems from chemicals are caused by ingestion. 90% are caused by the inhalation of vapors and absorption of particles. This would include perfume and off-gassing from personal care products which DOES affect/effect our pets!

Toxic chemicals

Toxins to be aware of in ‘Beauty products – learn to read labels. Some of these ingredients can be in pet products too!:

Phthalates can be found in numerous health and beauty products, from nail polish to fragrances and lotions to shampoos. phthalates have been linked to cancer, infertility, and birth defects.

Lead, a toxin that most people are aware of, can be found in lipstick. Linked to cancer and birth defects

Lead was found in EVERY single lipstick tested (380 of the lipsticks tested). In some cases over 70 times the amount allowed in candy bars (yes ALLOWED by the FDA) because as they stated “lipstick isn’t meant to be ingested”. Hmmm, I never wore lipstick as a dog UNLESS Mom kissed me, so she had to make sure the one she used wasn’t harmful to me. Has anyone at the FDA ever worn lipstick??? How about kissing others (including us PETS) while wearing lipstick? What about when a woman eats her food with her lipstick on???  “FDA also chose to overlook the fact of how easily items are absorbed into the skin – which is why so many medications are applied transdermally in skin patches, creams and oils” and “health destroying toxins have been increasingly identified in beauty and body care products and reports of lead in lipstick date back to the 1990s. The recent FDA analysis is an expansion of a previous analysis performed in 2007 which was spurred on by testing performed by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics on 33 shades of red lipstick”. I’m not sure why humans bother with all these organizations that are supposed to protect them AND us I might add, but then I’m sure there is an agenda attached as there often is – I’m a dog and I know that!

Don’t be fooled by advertising. Most of the beauty products you see on TV and in magazines are targeted towards us to make us think we need their product to look younger, sexier, and skinnier. In fact these products actually age us because of all the poisons, toxins and preservatives in the product! When we use these products on our hair, skin or nails we are putting these toxic substances directly into our bloodstream!” This article is from 2009, don’t you think this is far more extensive now in 2021? Insider Beauty Secrets: How to Choose Natural Products and Supplements

Unfortunately, it is a fact that like our food supply most of our beauty products are full of toxins, preservatives, and even poisons. Seems odd doesn’t it that the very thing you want to use to beautify could the very thing causing you harm. Here is another article (there are LOTS and LOTS of these when articles when you know where to look): Toxic Burden: Women Put 515 Chemicals on Their Faces Every Day.

Why did I choose these older article links? Bepaws Mom did a podcast episode WAY back then on this topic and she’s been ranting about it ever since woof! Just do a search on this blog and you’ll discover not only all the things that are toxic to you humans, but us animals and that includes in the environment too of course.

So what can you do people? SWITCH. Of course unless you have lots of disposable income humans, you do it like my humans did – as they ran out of things, they switched for better. And guess what? Better keeps coming along so they keep switching as they go along and learn.

Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better. ~Maya Angelou

You can also make your own things like lotion, air fresheners, etc. Of course we have our favorites for all of these but nowadays you have SO many GOOD choices, we’re certain you’ll find natural, good ones that work for you. I just shared some links with you so I don’t have to share everything and can go back and play with the other dogs. I’m not old anymore and very energetic now so I just want to run free! I love coming to help Mom out though bepaws I know she misses me and I miss her.

Until next time humans…

Have a PAWSitively, tail waggin’, NATUROPATHICALLY healthy day, WOOF!
