What Plants Can Teach Us: A Spring Transformation

In the spring of 2024, my husband (Donnie) received a miraculous healing from God. It was from the very thing most people never want to hear from a doctor. I won’t name it but you can guess. He was a very different man though when he was released from the hospital for the final time because he received his healing from God and rejected the doctor’s diagnosis. Since then, miracles, signs, and wonders have become much more prevalent for us. Why? Because we EXPECT them!

The following story I’ve shared with family and friends. Whether or not they believe me is up to them. Donnie and I know it is true – we live here after all.

In the summer of 2024, another amazing miracle happened. It was at the very least a two-fold one. Most are multifaceted when we are still, reflect, and THINK on them. This one involved plants that grow natively in our lower non-landscaped, non-fertilized yard. Some may want to discount this as a miracle, which is your prerogative, but for me and Donnie it most definitely was and still is. We are still primarily in drought again this year, but last year God was showing me something that I probably wouldn’t have considered without Him showing me. We did get rains in the summer, but not in the spring as we ought to have in order to have plants blooming in such abundance as they were. They were blooming in both our upper landscaped yard and our lower native yard.

One morning in late summer going into fall, I was just standing there in the morning before my run looking at all of the plants in awe. My dog Ezra is always with me so he can get his exercise too. I always start out before I run, by thanking God for the morning quiet, the beauty, and especially for Him. After all we had gone through, I was simply living every moment in gratitude (it bears reminding for me now so I never take it for granted again). The interesting thing is that the plants and trees had been blooming from late spring into fall, and were not letting up! In the 17 years we’ve lived here in this house, I’ve never seen it so prolific, especially when there has been little rain. Some of the stories I share below on the desert flora and fauna show how beautiful they are when there is rain. But without the needed rain, these plants are smart enough to reserve their energy so as to continue living in their arid environment.

As I was standing there marveling at the abundant blooming display all around me, the Lord whispered to me, “Do you want to know why?” I was thrilled to hear His excitedly happy voice again (I hear His voice in all sorts of ways and tones, but this one is my favorite). I replied, “YES, Lord I do!” He replied simply, “Because you love them.” All I could do was marvel. I DID and DO love them. I’d been telling the plants DAILY how much I love them and how beautiful, gorgeous, magnificent they are to me. Yes, of course I talk to my plants. I talk to the animals I see too. I talk to Creation. It just had never fully occurred to me prior to this, that LOVE was and IS the key ingredient for any and everything to flourish. Not the kind of love most of us think of as love, but TRUE love. The kind that has no agenda. Just allowing it to flow out of me as God is always pouring it into me. It seemed to be overflowing me in spite of and probably because of all we had gone through. Plants do have intelligence and emotions. It’s interesting how science has been proving that out also. They sing, they communicate – just differently than us. Just as animals do. The entire planet does. The cosmos does. And LOVE is the key ingredient.

While the landscape in the yard has changed some this year, the plants are growing once again, and while not blooming as much YET this year, to me they are still so beautiful. I’ve continued to tell them I love them and I’m grateful for them. I tell them to keep singing their beautiful songs. To go forth, be fruitful and multiply. When Ezra was a puppy, he literally decimated the lower native yard, digging up most of it! He’s nearly six now and no longer doing all the digging and destruction that puppies love to do lol. Therefore I told the plants, they can safely procreate prolificcally once again. This year, there are not an abundance of blooms YET, but I KNOW that as I keep things weeded, and continue to show them that I do indeed love them still, they will respond with abundant blooms as they show their love in return.

John Lennon was right about that – LOVE does make the world go round!

I’ve provided a few more posts I’ve written below if you would like to learn more about what we can learn from plants. One thing is for sure though, they LOVE to be LOVED.

“(1)The wilderness and dry land will be joyously glad! The desert will blossom like a rose and rejoice! (2)Every dry and barren place will burst forth with abundant blossoms, dancing and spinning with delight! Lebanon’s lush splendor covers it, the magnificent beauty of Carmel and Sharon. My people will see the awesome glory of Yahweh, the beautiful grandeur of our God. (3)Strengthen those who are discouraged. Energize those who feel defeated. (4)Say to the anxious and fearful, “Be strong and never afraid. Look, here comes your God! He is breaking through to give you victory! He comes to avenge your enemies. With divine retribution he comes to save you!” (5)Then blind eyes will open and deaf ears will hear. (6)Then the lame will leap like playful deer and the tongue-tied will sing songs of triumph. Gushing water will spring up in the wilderness and streams will flow through the desert. (7)The burning sand will become a refreshing oasis, the parched ground bubbling springs, and the dragon’s lair a meadow with grass, reeds, and papyrus. (8)There will be a highway of holiness called the Sacred Way. The impure will not be permitted on this road, but it will be accessible to God’s people. And not even fools will lose their way. (9)The lion will not be found there; no wild beast will travel on it— they will not be found there. But the redeemed will find a pathway on it. (10)Yahweh’s ransomed ones will return with glee to Zion. They will enter with a song of rejoicing and be crowned with everlasting joy. Ecstatic joy will overwhelm them; weariness and grief will disappear!~Isaiah 35:1-10, TPT

Until next time…
