These are three podcasts I did over the years, the last one most recently when my closet friend, Bre Altherr lost her primary Teacher/Heart Dog, Merlin two weeks ago. Here is an edited version of what I wrote to her just this week: We miss so many things when they’re gone. Then eventually all you can remember are all those good, funny, loving times and be grateful for the time you had even as you still miss their physical...

Yesterday morning on my walk with my Carolina Dog, Schatzie, I was deep in thought and prayer. I happened to glance to my left and the hill in the photo was my view…the same one my sweet Meshach (Great Dane in photo) used to dash up with sheer, unbridled delight. I had to squat down and simply allow the sorrow of his loss to wash over me. My sweet girl Schatzie sat by me with my arm about her, as I allowed myself to embrace the...

Meshach A week after Shadrach’s passing, my friend Kim asked me if she could gift me with one of her upcoming litter’s puppies. Fridge Cute, fluffy, full of spunk covered in self-assuredness – that was my Golden Retriever puppy, Fridge on his first day with us. At the time in 1986, Refrigerator Perry of Chicago Bears’ fame was a well-known linebacker. Fridge was the largest puppy in his litter, so his breeder named him Fridge. I thought it was cute so I kept the name, especially since he already knew it. After we picked him up from the breeder, he promptly...

A year ago today my heart shattered into pieces as we had to put to sleep our sweet, young Great Dane boy we named Meshach (aka Zona SisCos Through the Fire). After all we did to help him, it just wasn’t enough. The seizures escalated and when a dog is crying in pain, they are in a LOT of pain. They have such a high pain threshold so when they are crying you know it is agonizing for them. There was no sudden healing. There was...
