Fragrance vs. Scent

Carolina Dog sniffing the dirt
Ezra searching out the truth

This week we have kind of a double allegory in one! Fragrance vs. scent or “sniff” for the dogs of course because it can be BOTH for them – especially since they are taking the lead on this allegory.

This is the allegory continued…reference my Be Well book for the descriptions of the dogs minus the Fierce Seer (also known as Ezra the Carolina Dog). His story is told on the podcast and here. Attitude Adjuster’s (also known as King the American Bully) story is in the book, this blog, and the podcast. You can receive the Be Well book in PDF for free if you sign up for the newsletter. You’ll receive a thank you email with the link to download the PDF.

FRAGRANCE VS SCENT ALLEGORY

Fear has a scent. Doubt has a scent. Anger has a scent. Judgment has a scent. It is the scent of weakness and limited human strength.  The fear of the Lord has a fragrance. Faith has a fragrance. Peace has a fragrance. And mercy has a fragrance. This is the fragrance of strength and the power of God.” ~Kathi Pelton

SNIFF AND SCENT

Attitude Adjuster here to elaborate a bit. We dogs know all those scents humans. We can scent fear. We can scent anger and weakness. We react to it in keeping with our kind, which could be with growling, whining, barking, and even aggression if we don’t know the person exhibiting these things. We also cower in fear sometimes bePAWs humans can be scary. NONE of this is from The One Who is Love. It came in the fallen state and we, like all creation, groan in anticipation for the revealing of the sons of God (see Romans 8). The good news humans is, we also know fragrance. Fierce Seer isn’t too fond of some of the good fragrances like some of the essential oils She uses though, yet are you little brother?

American Bully and Carolina Dog

Well, Attitude Adjuster, if I am being honest, it’s really just a game I play with Her. She started that silly game with me when I was just a little pup and now we just continue on with it. Except I do growl a lot when she’s anoints me at night before bed, WOOF. She doesn’t buy it though so I should just receive it shouldn’t I big brother? I suppose you and I are just the growly type of dogs as She says.

Let me be frank in/on/about scents WOOF, I can be VERRRRY funny hehe, I think you may consider it little brother. We both know She’s just helping us and is gentle in the use of them at any rate. Shall we continue down the scents and sniff path a bit more for the humans to understand more about these things? Let’s dig deep shall we little brother and give them a lesson in why scents and sniffing are so imPAWtant for us and then we can go back to the deeper message of fragrance the humans desire shall we?

Yes, big brother, especially bePAWs you’re being so eloquent with your words, hehe. I know She tells you that you articulate human so well, so I believe that you believe that now – that’s the power of words…which I’ll add right here and now that we’ll be going into deeper in upcoming post and podcast episodes!

Okay, here we go on a little journey into OUR world humans! This is good information for you to sniff out yourselves and DIG into bePAWs we need this! We’ll provide a few articles here for you to read so you can learn just how much this matters in our overall health and wellbeing humans. We also prefer to go on long walks at a slower pace just so we CAN sniff, dig, and read all the news – whether it is city news or nature news. We’re not as eager for the rushed, fast walk humans seem to prefer for their workouts although we’ll still enjoy those too since we do need and desire our exercise. It’s just that sniffing for us is very necessary.

When our humans used to take me (Attitude Adjuster and Beauty Queen before She went to Heaven) on long walks we got to sniff so much it was pure heaven for us. Now our humans can’t take us on those long walks – at least not until we move to a new area but that’s another story for another time – so it just isn’t as much fun to sniff the same areas all the time where we now walk but it sure is better than nothing. We especially like to just be out in nature, sniff, chase birds off, bark at other dogs we see across our horse fencing, and experience life in the dog lane.

The good part of this though is that we are off leash and free running, sniffing and doing our own thing in the process too. One of the things that stood out to Her about this is how it lowers our pulse rates even while we’re moving, WOOF! PAWlease read the article here and learn about this for the wellbeing of your dogs humans: Are You Depriving Your Dog of This Natural Instinct?

Sadly, I haven’t gotten do the long walks like you did Attitude Adjuster, except when I was real little and very scared of all the new, desert surroundings especially since I was used to the country life in Tennessee. It was all a very challenging time for you, me and our humans big brother I know. But now I’m big, strong, young and I need those longer excursions! I sure hope we move soon so I can run and run and sniff and sniff. I’d be good in nose work don’t you think big brother?

No doubt you would be little brother, especially bePAWs you have that long pointy nose hehe. I’m not sure you’d like the training done with essential oils though – that’s how nose work is taught ya know. I wouldn’t mind that though. I do know that you’d be VERY good at making snout pits bePAWs you did exactly that as you excavated almost ALL of our entire lower native yard and were trying real hard to do the landscaped yard too. It’s actually a very normal thing for your breed to do exactly that though Fierce Seer, so that’s pretty PAWsome I think. Carolina Dogs are a wild bunch aren’t they? She often says you were an archeologist hehehe!

I am an archeologist big brother, you know I have superior snout-pertise hehe. Yes, we are a bit of a wild bunch and snout pits are unique to our breed too, WOOF! Humans, you need to understand how imPAWtant it is for us to not just get exercise but for us to dig, to sniff, and to BE dogs. We aren’t furry toys or human babies, even though we ARE family, we’re just different than you. So our needs are different. Attitude Adjuster and I just love to sniff a lot of things, and leave our scents for each other hehe. That’s like reading the news for us. We hope this little excursion into DOGdom helps you just a bit to better understand that for us, scenting and sniffing are the best; in truth heavenly for us. For humans, we think that fragrance is key though as the opening quote stated.

FRAGRANCE

She truly listened to and pondered all the dogs were saying. She knows they speak authentically because they don’t have the ability to do or be otherwise. They can be cunning yes as they are predators after all. What’s interesting is they still want to be with us. She has still so much still to learn about them even though She’s been around them all of her life.

That’s why The One Who is Love has always taught Her and led Her through the canines primarily even though She loves animals in general. He chose the Dog as primary for Her. While Her first animal love was the Horse, the Dog is the one that has taught Her and brought Her closer and closer to Him, the One Who is Love. He beckons to Her through His own fragrant Words as He is THE WORD.

Arise, my darling! Come quickly, my beloved. Come and be the graceful gazelle with me. Come be like a young stag with me. We will dance in the high place of the sky, yes, on the mountains of fragrant spice. Forever we shall be united as one!” ~Song of Songs 8:14, TPT

It was the Bright One, Her special Neapolitan Mastiff who brought Her ever closer to The One Who is Love. Bright One taught Her how to let go of the cognitive dissonance She had been entrenched in due to Her training. Bright One helped Her learn and he’s why She even ventured into fragrance in the first place. She had no clue just how far this could, would, and continues to go. She is forever grateful to God for Bright One’s presence in Her life.

It was Beauty Queen, Her first Carolina Dog who helped Her to discern the fragrance of The One Who is Love. His fragrance is so pleasing as to be otherworldly!

She and Beauty Queen were on a walk one morning a few years ago and She was bemoaning the fact that there had been so little rain that none of Her favorite wild bushes or plants were flowering. She cried out to the Fragrant One and when She looked up, there was a bush She passed by daily. It was filled with beautiful, tiny purple flowers and their fragrance drew Her. She leaned in, took a deep breath in and smelled their lovely fragrance (further explained in this post She wrote Diffusing the Fragrance).

The Flowering Desert Bush

She took a look around and could see that none of the other bushes of the same species were flowering! Then She knew, The Fragrant One had given Her a special gift of His beautiful fragrance. A fragrance of peace, mercy, faith, strength and the power of God, The Fragrant One! The Fragrance of Life and life more abundantly! The gift was one of expectation, of hope, which He complied with. Later She discovered that the other bushes of the same species with the beautiful little flowers even smelled like this bush! Elaine Tavolacci explains this so beautifully and in depth in her beautiful article, “Discerning the Fragrance of Heaven“.

But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?~2 Corinthians 2:14-16

As for the essential oils, they too are a fragrant anointing reminder of The One Who is Love, Who is Fragrant. I use them to support, oxygenate, boost, improve the body’s own natural defenses so it can heal itself. As my friend and colleague, Dr. Sarah Reagan says about the essential oils we use by Young Living, “what the oils are actually doing is changing the frequency of the microbes so that they return to vibrating in harmony with the organism in which they live.” Harmonizing the body back into the proper, optimal balance where it can thrive. To go deeper on this topic of “harmonizing” read musician and author, Mike Donker’s article from 2008, titled, “Understanding the True Meaning of Disease“. I’ve shared this article for years to help others understand what has been hidden from us for decades, maybe even centuries on this topic.

In closing, read this beautiful poem of love and fragrance by Beth Kennedy: https://godisgoodstories.com/2023/10/19/kingdom-come-in-the-stillness-prophetic-word/  a fragrant poem of The One Who is Love.

To be continued….

Until next time…

Have a PAWSitively, tail waggin’, FRAGRANTLY healthy day!
